What are posters?
Posters are one of the most prominent types of visual communication and art, from their early use as public advertisements to their grandeur as the box office. It can be difficult to choose the type of poster that will best suit your needs because there are so many uses and formats for them. Custom posters from Signs.com are made to give you a high-quality print at a competitive price. You can confidently create your poster for a promotional event, infographic, or business art event with our highly capable digital UV printers.
Standard poster sizes and bespoke sizes are both widely accessible for custom posters. Our flagship same day poster printing products include different paper options and finishes for all kinds of applications, including wheatpaste posters:
Our standard posters offer the finest image at the pricing you’d anticipate for a large run of poster prints since they are printed on superior archival poster paper. Custom mounted posters are perfect for travel, presentations, and rapid displays. They are directly printed on your choice of sturdy PVC or cost-effective foam board. Cardstock Posters – Cardstock posters feature heavyweight 24pt paper, which has a more robust and durable texture.
For a very long time, posters have been used successfully to display both text and images. They are frequently employed to advertise services, goods, occasions, or concepts in public places. They can also add fantastic visual appeal to your house or office as art and decor. Custom posters from Signs.com maintain the standard level of affordability for printed posters while providing the greatest print quality on archival photo paper (available in glossy or matte). Additionally, they come in almost any custom size, enabling you to design the ideal poster for your particular requirements.
Which finish is right for your posters?
Glossy
Glossy posters produce prints with vivid, rich richness. The smooth and texture-free surface left by the glossy polish really brings out the nuances in your design. Glossy posters look beautiful everywhere but really shine in places with low lighting, like inside.
Matte
Glossy posters have a comparable weight and thickness to our matte posters, but the texture behind the print is somewhat more visible. Additionally, they are less susceptible to smearing and fingerprints. While still brilliant, matte poster colors are a little more subdued than glossy ones. Their preferred environment is in open, well-lit display areas.

What is CMYK?
In offset printing, the standard color mode used in CMYK. CMYK, or Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black represent the four process colours in this mode. When you are creating your files, be sure to check the color mode as programs like Photoshop by default use RBG color, not CMYK. CMYK may look more dull on a computer screen than RGB; more noticeable in large solid color areas.
Accepted File Formats
We require industry standard formats for all uploaded files. We keep quality in mind when we print every job. We accept the following file formats: TIF – JPG – PDF – EPS – PSD. We accept CorelDraw, Pagemaker & Quark or similar files by converting them to industry standard graphic formats like JPG, TIF or PDF.
Rich Black vs 100% Black
Large black areas or fonts bigger than 36 points should use Rich Black which stops areas appearing gray. Rich Black is created with 30% Cyan, 30% Magenta, 30% Yellow, 100% Black. This setup will keep black areas looking rich and bold. For best results with regular body text, do not use Rich Black.
What Paper to Choose?
Paper should be addressed first in your design work. With postcards, the best option is to choose a thicker cardstock instead of a thinner text weight. The difference between these 2 types of paper is thickness. Our text weight is based on pounds and our card stock is weighted by points. Want to feel the difference? Order a Free Sample Kit today.
What is Font Outlining?
We might not have the same fonts on our systems as your computer, so when saving your files in a vector based program (Illustrator, InDesign, Quark, CorelDraw) please outline your fonts. This will convert them to a vector image, will not effect the clarity and will allow us to see the same text as you see on your screen.
Coating Types
We have many coating options at Printing New York. Matte, UV, silk and spot UV. Choose the coating based on your application. For example, if you want to write on your cards with a pen, do not choose UV coating as a pen won’t write on it. In this case a matte or uncoated stock coating would suit. Choose UV coating for flyers or banners and our rich silk gives a touch of elegance; 16pt stock a more durable feeling.
FAQs
What resolution should my files be for printing?
When printing, 300 PPI is the best print resolution for digital printers. The design of a file with a resolution below 300 PPI will result in blurring and pixelization. On the other hand, you should not design with a resolution higher than 300 PPI. As far as the eye can see, there will be no difference in print quality. It will also make your file much larger (increase file upload/transfer time).
We always recommend 300 PPI drawings to print, but we also know that sometimes you do not have the ability to edit your drawings. If you cannot print your files with a resolution of 300 PPI, you will have to take some measures to ensure that a lower resolution works for you.
We recommend that you set the resolution in your graphics editor (i.e. Photoshop) to 300 PPI before you start drawing your file. Increasing the resolution after the start will still result in blurring/pixelation.
How are my artworks checked?
All the work is checked by our team before printing. If we have any problems with the files, we will contact you and advise you how to change the format. Please note that conversion of both color and size mode will be done automatically without prior information.
During the analysis of the illustrations, we check
– if the files are presented in one of the accepted formats (PDF, JPG, TIFF, EPS or PS).
– if the number of pages is correct
– if the file supplied is greyscale (only if you have ordered a color print)
– if the file is the right size (otherwise we will scale your work to the desired size, however, this may result in a reduction in resolution. No additional bleeding will be added to the process either).
– if the drill lines have been specified
– if the appropriate fonts have been incorporated into the file.
Why do my artwork files need bleed?
To ensure that there are no white areas on the printed product, all files submitted should have a 2mm bleed on each side. This means that your design (both images and graphics) should always be 2mm larger than the actual print format. Failure to do so may result in slight variations, resulting in white margins. To ensure that the fonts and essential elements of your drawing are visible, place them at least 3mm away from the final format (not including bleeding) and do not use edges as edges in layouts.
Optional:
– If you are submitting data for printing in an open format, the bleed should be 4mm on each side (e.g. A4 size including bleed should be 301×214mm).
– If you are submitting files for presentation folders, banners, monthly calendars, packaging or any other promotional technology products, please prepare a file with 3mm bleed on each side
– Envelopes should be supplied with a 1mm bleed.
– The textile elastic frames must be bled 15mm.
If you need more information, please consult our artwork instructions.
What file types can my artwork be?
You can upload files in the following formats:
JPG, PDF, EPS, TIFF, PS (PostScript)
Make sure that your PDF file is saved directly from your graphics program in standard PDF/X format (PDF/X3 or PDF/X1a). To avoid problems with layers and transparencies during the printing process, it is recommended to use the “1.3 compatibility” setting when saving artworks.
If you are sending TIFF files, be sure to reduce the number of layers to one.
To avoid problems with color variation or printed image, please do not use pre-separated data from DCS EPS.

Are you an eco-friendly printer?
Yes we are! We offer the widest range of eco-friendly printing products available in New York using soy ink, including recycled business cards, brochures, presentation folders, sales sheets, stationery, catalogs, flyers, calendars and more. Recycled paper is now our standard stock.
Historically, the printing industry has had a poor reputation for caring for the environment, with excessive use of water and electricity, paper waste and the use of volatile chemicals resulting in toxic waste. Protecting the environment is one of New York Print’s major concerns, and we strive to put our planet first.
And this is how Print New York is making a difference:
– Using soy-based inks
– Use of recycled paper stocks as standard
– Printing methods, such as duplex printing, that reduce paper usage
– Modern machines that significantly reduce energy consumption
– Elimination of toxic and volatile chemicals
– Alcohol-free presses
– We recycle redundant machines and computer parts.
– We recycle our printing plates, press blankets, bottles, cans and containers
